92% High Efficiency Furnace – With an Annual Fuel Efficiency (AFUE) of 90% or higher, it is one of the most energy-efficient furnaces available.* (*as per greenerbuilding.org)
Programmable Thermostats – Programmable thermostats allow you to properly manage your home’s heating cycle so the temperature can be set to lower levels when it is not required. Consistently lowering your heat when you don not need it helps the environment and save you money.
High Performance Low E Windows – High Performance Low E windows contribute significantly to the reduction of heat loss/gain. By adding argon gas – an inert, non-toxic gas – between the window panes the performance is further enhanced by providing an insulating factor almost 95% greater than that of standard double pane windows (as per manufacturer). All windows are ENERGY STAR rated.
Wood Products – By using dimensional lumber from certified sustainably harvested sources and manufactured wood products with recycled content, old growth forests can be protected for future generations.
Insulation System – We use formaldehyde-free batt insulation to reduce the potential health risks associated with formaldehyde binding agents commonly used in fibreglass. Insulated rim ply installed to the perimeter of joists and site installed foam insulation on all cantilevers and living areas built over unheated space further reduce the potential for heat loss.
Low VOC Paints and Adhesives - Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) are the fumes that are given off from common paints and adhesives. This is a known health hazard, particularly for individuals with asthma. We have chosen to use paints and adhesives that are VOC-free or contain only minimal levels of VOCs to reduce this risk.
Water Smart Plumbing Fixtures and Appliances - In 2004, the average Canadian used approximately 329 liters of water per day. Water saving fixtures and appliances can reduce water usage by as much as 35%, thereby saving money in energy, water and wastewater charges (www.ec.gc.ca). Our standard includes low flow bathroom fixtures and water saving toilets and dishwashers.
